ST: Yeah, we were both very determined and focused on making music a priority in our lives. We both had a lot of passion for it and really believed in each other’s talents. It was a really exciting time for us, figuring out our sound and what we wanted to say with our music.
MS: And then when we brought Max on board as our drummer, it really solidified our sound and gave us the energy we needed to take things to the next level. We became a tight-knit trio and really started to hone our craft.
ST: It’s been a journey for us, especially with the personal challenges we’ve faced along the way. But music has always been our constant, our way of processing and expressing our emotions. It’s been cathartic for us to write and perform together, and we feel so grateful for the connection we have through our music.
MS: Absolutely. Our friendship and our music are intertwined in such a special way. We’ve grown so much together, both personally and musically, and it’s been an incredible journey so far. We’re excited to see where it takes us next.
ST: Definitely. We’re always pushing ourselves to evolve and grow as artists, and we’re so grateful for the support we’ve received from our fans. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to share our music with the world and connect with people through our songs.

ST: Yes, thank you so much for the interview. We appreciate the chance to share our story and our music with your audience. We hope everyone enjoys listening to Revival of a Friend and connecting with the emotions and experiences we’ve poured into it.
So, we waited until we could get back into a studio and work with Max to bring everything together. We had a lot of discussions about the overall sound and feel of the album, how we wanted it to flow, what themes we wanted to explore. It was definitely a collaborative effort in terms of deciding what songs made the cut and how they fit together. We all had a vision for what we wanted the album to be, and it was a matter of working together to make that vision a reality.
ST: Yeah, I think the album was a culmination of everything we had been through in the years leading up to it. It was a way for us to process all of the emotions and experiences we had been through individually and together. It was a way for us to make sense of everything and create something beautiful out of it. The album is really a reflection of who we are as people and as artists, and I think we all felt really strongly about putting it out into the world. It was a labor of love, for sure, but it was worth it in the end.
MS: Absolutely. It was a long and sometimes difficult process, but we all put our hearts and souls into it. And I think that shows in the final product. We’re really proud of what we created, and we can’t wait for people to hear it.
But ‘Initiation’ felt like it needed that live energy, that moment of vulnerability and raw emotion that comes with playing together in the same room. It was a very emotional experience to record that song, and I think that energy really comes through in the final product. It’s a song that means a lot to me personally, and I think it really does represent the heart of the album.
MS: Yeah, it was a very special moment in the studio. We had been playing that song together for a while before we recorded it, and we knew that we wanted to capture that live energy. It was a really powerful experience to play it all together and feel that connection and emotion in the room. It’s definitely one of my favorite moments on the album.
ST: Same here. It’s a song that really brings us together as a band and as friends, and I think that comes through in the music. It’s a really special song to all of us, and I’m really proud of how it turned out.
MS: Yeah, me too. It’s a beautiful moment on the album, and I think it really captures the essence of what we were trying to achieve with Crossing Over. It’s a song that means a lot to all of us, and I think it really represents the journey we went on to make this album. That feeling of being in grief was a way for me to feel close to that person and not have to fully let go. But as time has passed, I’ve learned to approach grief in a more reflective and distant way. I no longer define myself solely by my grief, but rather see it as a part of my past that has shaped me into who I am today. Reflecting on these experiences through my music has allowed me to process and navigate my emotions in a more mature and nuanced way.
In a way, writing about grief now feels like revisiting a part of my past rather than living in it. It’s a way for me to honor those memories and emotions while also acknowledging the growth and healing that has taken place since then. The songs on this album capture a moment in time, a snapshot of intense emotions and experiences that have shaped me as an artist and as a person. It’s a way for me to connect with others who may be going through similar experiences and to offer them a sense of understanding and solidarity.

ST: La mejor forma.
MS: Como, entras en una habitación y hay una forma de organizar esa habitación que es la más Feng Shui. Siento que nuestros cerebros funcionan de manera similar. Somos detallistas pero también tenemos una amplia perspectiva sobre cómo sonará todo el cuerpo de trabajo juntos.
ST: No puedo recordar específicamente por qué sentimos que ‘Shadow of a Dove’ pertenece ahí; simplemente lo hace.
MS: Siento que es una pista oscura y épica, y ‘Shining’ es una pista épica, ligera y brillante.

ST: Hay tantas cosas. Hay formas en las que somos muy diferentes, y creo que nuestras diferencias son una gran parte de lo que nos inspira mutuamente.
MS: Creo que Susanna es realmente buena confiando en su intuición, y yo me cuestiono mucho a mí misma. Quiero decir, ambos nos cuestionamos diferentes cosas, pero siento que puedes dejar de lado la voz dudosa a veces de una manera en la que yo realmente no puedo. Tener eso en una colaboración es muy útil: en cualquier práctica creativa, estás constantemente cuestionando lo que estás haciendo. De hecho, creo que perseguir la música es muy parecido a perseguir un camino religioso. Tienes que tener mucha fe, y las personas no siempre creen en lo que estás haciendo o pueden estar un poco confundidas sobre por qué dedicarías tu vida a ello. Tener a alguien en el proyecto que diga, “No te preocupes por eso”, es muy útil para mí, como alguien que está constantemente indecisa en mi mente sobre la forma correcta de hacer algo.
ST: Algo que Maia realmente me inspira, algo de lo que siento que aprendo mucho de ellos todo el tiempo…
MS: Oh dios.
ST: [risas] No, es bueno. Maia no deja que las circunstancias externas o lo que la gente quiere que hagas afecte lo que ellos saben que es mejor para ellos. A veces, puedo caer en complacer a la gente o preocuparme demasiado por todos los diferentes deseos o dinámicas sociales que la gente tiene que tal vez estén contribuyendo a una elección que estamos haciendo. Maia es realmente bueno en ser claro y decir, “No, esto es nuestro. Debemos elegirnos a nosotros mismos y lo que es mejor para nosotros”. He aprendido mucho sobre exponerme más, ser realmente claro y directo con la comunicación, y siempre nos ha servido bien. La combinación de nuestras fortalezas – y nuestras debilidades – lleva a una colaboración beneficiosa.
ST: Es simbiótico.
ST: Sí, tenemos un buen equilibrio de perspectivas. Ambos aprendemos mucho el uno del otro, y creo que la única forma en que eso ha sucedido es porque ambos estamos dedicados a la auto reflexión y al crecimiento personal. Y ambos somos muy buenos oyentes.
MS: El uno al otro.
ST: Sí, el uno al otro [risas]. Cuando formas un proyecto con alguien – o un negocio, honestamente, en muchos aspectos – siempre habrá cosas que surjan. Nos ha obligado, en interés de nuestros objetivos y sueños compartidos, y solo continuará si creamos este espacio para que el otro se sienta vulnerable.
MS: Quiero decir, es por eso que las bandas se separan todo el tiempo – hay un tropo tan divertido de bandas siempre peleando y teniendo drama interpersonal. Simplemente no se soportan entre sí, y definitivamente no es el caso con nuestra banda. Somos amigos muy cercanos, pero ha sido un largo viaje para descubrir cómo equilibrar nuestras personalidades y crecimiento personal y madurar. Susanna y yo tenemos la suerte de tener esta química natural como personas, y parte de eso es ser realmente diferentes.
