The renowned actor and Democratic supporter expressed that while the president had triumphed in many battles throughout his career, the battle against time is one he cannot win. Another Hollywood figure and fundraiser, Michael Douglas, also expressed concerns about Mr. Biden’s chances in the election. Despite the mounting pressure within the party, Mr. Biden remains resolute in his determination to challenge Donald Trump in November. Clooney and Douglas’ statements came after Mrs. Pelosi joined the increasing unease within the party, emphasizing that time is running out for Mr. Biden to make a decision following his lackluster debate performance against Trump. Clooney, in an op-ed for the New York Times, lamented that the Joe Biden he encountered at a recent fundraising event did not match the Biden of the past decades. He emphasized that the concerns raised were shared by numerous members of Congress. Michael Douglas also expressed his worries about Mr. Biden’s abilities for a potential second term. Despite the public dissent within the Democratic Party, there is still substantial support for Mr. Biden from elected officials. Mrs. Pelosi, a key figure among Democrats, refrained from directly addressing Mr. Biden’s future in the race but underscored the importance of timely decision-making. Several elected Democrats, including Senator Michael Bennet and Representative Peter Welch, have called for Mr. Biden to withdraw from the race, citing concerns about his chances against Trump. However, the Biden campaign remains firm in its commitment to see the race through. Democratic leaders continue to rally behind Mr. Biden, with some prominent figures like Gavin Newsom and Chuck Schumer reaffirming their support. Despite the internal debate within the party, the trajectory of Mr. Biden’s campaign remains uncertain.
