It allows them to operate with impunity, thumbing their noses at ethical standards that would get any other federal official fired or prosecuted. It is long past time for Congress to establish an ethics code for the Supreme Court and to create a mechanism for enforcement. If the justices will not police themselves, then Congress must. The alternative is an institution that becomes increasingly corrupt and increasingly distrusted by the American people.
