Título en español: Vicepresidente de Kenia hospitalizado antes de la votación de destitución.

Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua did not show up in the Senate for his impeachment trial, as his lawyer stated he was unwell. The Senate rejected a proposal to delay the proceedings, and the trial continued without the deputy president. Gachagua’s lawyer mentioned that he was admitted to the hospital due to intense chest pains. The Senate needed two-thirds of the senators to remove Gachagua from office, as he faced charges of corruption and other offenses. Gachagua pleaded not guilty to the charges and called the impeachment a “political witch hunt.” The impeachment stemmed from a fallout between Gachagua and President William Ruto. Witnesses accused Gachagua of acquiring wealth through corrupt means. The trial also involved allegations of interference in government tenders.
