It was great. I loved the Ramones. We had the same manager, and he asked if I would produce them. I thought: this is going to be easy! But it was really hard. They were very set in their ways, as they should have been. We did the album in New York, and I remember them turning up in the studio with their leather jackets and jeans. I was wearing a suit. They looked at me like: âWhatâs going on with this guy?â But we got on great. We made a good album. They were a powerful band.
” I think the split was a shame, but it led to some great work from Kevin Godley and Lol Creme, so it’s hard to say if it was a completely negative thing. But I do believe that if we had stayed together, we could have achieved even greater success. The dynamics of the band were always interesting, with different personalities and talents coming together to create something special. And as for my favorite Ramone, it would have to be Joey.
