Working with Richard Attenborough was a wonderful experience, as he was like a mentor to me and played a significant role in my career. Bruce Willis was amazing to work with, especially on The Sixth Sense, where he was great with the kids and always played guitar in his trailer. And Hugh Grant was incredibly nice to me when we worked together in Notting Hill. As for my obsession with horror films, I believe they are great for strong female leads and I prefer doing serious and dramatic roles.
Regarding actors being treated as dispensers of wisdom, I think people still hold actors in high regard for their opinions, even though they may not necessarily know better than anyone else. When portraying Miranda Green in Invitation to Murder, I drew inspiration from Agatha Christie, but the character is an original creation.
As for my early roles in Lawn Dogs and Lost and Delirious, I relied on speech coaches rather than my family to help with my British accent. Performing on stage in Ireland in Steel Magnolias was a special experience, given my family connections, and my mom was very proud to see me perform at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin.
My views on fame and Hollywood have evolved over the years, and my advice to young actors would be to focus on their craft and take fame with grace and humility. As for doing the video for Noel Gallagher’s Everybody’s on the Run, I was asked by Noel himself and had a great time shooting it. I am a huge Oasis fan and attending their reunion tour is definitely on my bucket list.
