Wetherspoon: Británicos explican por qué aman la popular cadena de pubs en el Reino Unido.

Form a Friday night trip after the work week and a catch up with a mate to a delicious pub roast at your local, it’s a staple of British culture.

Wetherspoon, or ‘Wetherspoons’, ‘Wethers’, or ‘Spoons’, is a popular pub chain across the whole of the UK & Ireland founded in 1979.

Chances are whenever you are out, there is a Wetherspoon pub not too far away, with 803 J D Wetherspoon Pubs locations in the UK as of November 15, 2024, according to ScrapeHero.

If you’re over the age of 18, chances are you’ve been in a Wetherspoon pub more than once and many will tell you it is a great choice for most occasions.

But why do us Brits just love Spoons so much?

Taking to the r/AskBrits Reddit page, someone asked just that, ‘Do British people really love a good Wetherspoon?’.

And well, it is safe to say the answer is yes… British people do love it, and here is why.

Brits on why we all love a Wetherspoon pub

The general consensus from Brits on why they love Wetherspoon was the price, as the saying goes, ‘cheap and cheerful.

One Reddit user said: “They’re affordable, and you know what you’re getting. A few times I’ve been out to a “gastro pub” and had a bad dinner, and sat there thinking that I could have paid a third of the price and had something better at spoons.

“A lot of people here seem to look down on them (and perhaps on people that frequent them), but I think they are generally a good thing.”

Another said: “It’s the McDonald’s of pubs. It’s consistent, clean, and cheap.

“Could you have better beer and food at a different pub? Sure. Will you have a horrible beer and get food poisoning from the spoons? No.”

A third added: “Ultimately, they do what they say on the tin, cheap food and drinks with no frills.”

Some argued however that ‘love’ was a strong word, claiming many use it for convenience.

“Love is probably the wrong word,” one user said.

“But it’s cheap, consistent quality and often convenient.”

Another added: “Wetherspoons is the McDonalds of pubs.

“No one really likes them, but they’re cheap and you know what you’re getting, so they get business.”

It’s safe to say despite some looking down on Spoons as an option, it is a classic British venue that will continue pulling in thousands of customers daily.
