Lo que los jóvenes demócratas tienen que decir sobre la educación superior

It’s almost like there’s an expectation that you have to have gone to some elite private school in order to get into a good school, and that’s just not the case for most people.” — Alyssa Manthi

“There’s a lot of emphasis on reaching out to marginalized communities, but I don’t think there’s enough being done. There’s this sense of complacency in the higher education system where people think that just because they’re not a part of the problem, they’re part of the solution. But that’s not the case. You have to actively work towards being inclusive and equitable, and that’s not happening at a lot of schools.” — Meghana Halbe

What role does diversity play in higher education, both in terms of student body and curriculum?

“Diversity is so important because it’s not just about having people from different backgrounds in the same room, it’s about learning from those backgrounds. It’s about understanding that your perspective is not the only one that matters. And that applies to both the student body and the curriculum. There needs to be diversity in the subjects we study, the authors we read, the history we learn.” — Michael Clausen

“We need more diverse voices in the curriculum. We can’t just be teaching Western history, Western literature, Western philosophy. There are so many other perspectives out there that are just as valuable and important. We need to be exposed to those as well.” — Arnold Brown

“Diversity is not just about having a diverse student body, it’s about creating an environment where all students feel welcome and valued. It’s about making sure that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background. And that starts with the curriculum, with the professors, with the administration.” — Sandra Ukah

What are your hopes for the future of higher education in America?

“I hope that higher education becomes more accessible and affordable for all students, regardless of their background. I hope that we start to see more diversity in the student body, in the curriculum, in the faculty. I hope that we start to see a shift towards a more inclusive and equitable higher education system.” — Morgan Vanderlaan

“I hope that higher education can become a place where all students feel welcome and valued, where they can learn and grow and become the best versions of themselves. I hope that we start to see a shift towards a more socially just higher education system, where everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed.” — Sean Bridge

“I hope that higher education can become a place where students can learn from each other, where they can challenge each other’s beliefs and perspectives in a respectful and constructive way. I hope that we start to see a shift towards a more intellectually diverse higher education system, where all voices are heard and valued.” — Alyssa Manthi
