It was definitely a mix of both things – finding my own musical language and being comfortable with my voice, as well as learning the technical aspects of producing and arranging. I had to experiment with different approaches and styles, and push myself to try new things in order to create the sound I wanted for this record. It was a process of trial and error, of opening myself up to different influences and genres, and of refining my skills as a musician and producer. It was a challenging but ultimately rewarding experience that allowed me to grow and evolve as an artist.
The conversation highlights the importance of breaking limitations and exploring different musical languages to enhance one’s own creative process. The artist discusses pushing their voice to new limits and finding comfort in a range that allows for emotional expression. Collaborations on the latest album are seen as opportunities to learn from other musicians and incorporate their unique styles into the songs. The artist’s lack of a strict routine is revealed, with creativity striking at random times throughout the day. The evolution of songs is compared to the cycles of life, with beginnings, middles, and ends reflecting personal growth and experiences. It’s something that I’ve been trying to just be like, “Yeah, it’s all part of it.” I feel like a lot of the songs on the record are trying to convey that idea. It’s not just one singular emotion that you’re feeling; it’s a mix of all of them. And that’s okay. It’s okay to feel angry and then feel accepting, or to feel sad and then feel happy. It’s all part of the human experience, and I think that’s what I was trying to convey with this record.
